As 2024 winds down, tech professionals are already eager to explore what the upcoming year has in stock for them, as it’s crucial to keep up with the latest trends and be ready for new opportunities, and sometimes maybe challenges. We spoke with experts from various domains—automotive technology, quality assurance (QA), project management, mobile development, as well as recruitment—and are ready to share their insights and thoughts about game changers of 2025.  

Automotive technology 

These days, the automotive sector has three driving forces: autonomous cars, software-defined vehicles (SDVs), and electric vehicles (EVs). As cars more and more rely on software updates and enhanced functionality, the development of SDVs will press on. The EV market will be fueled by advancements in battery technology and innovative energy solutions. Beyond traditional charging stations, alternative energy sources may reshape the landscape, for example infrastructure akin to trolleybuses or trams that draw power from wires, roads integrated with inductive wireless charging, or other groundbreaking methods.  

The social problem of autonomous vehicles will also take new twists and turns. 

I believe we’ll see multi-storey road systems designed to optimize traffic. The first level could be designated for trucks, the second for automated public transport like trolleybuses and trams, and the third for fans to drive in person. This way we could make autonomous driving more efficient.”

With the automotive sector becoming increasingly interdisciplinary, the skill set required for tech specialists is expanding. For autonomous vehicles (AD/ADAS), expertise in AI, sensor fusion, navigation, and positioning is crucial. In the domain of electrical vehicles (EVs), specialists need to strengthen their knowledge in physics, mathematics, and modeling. Meanwhile, the development of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) requires skills in High-Performance Computing (HPC) and POSIX systems. 

Quality assurance 

QA is evolving to meet new technology and business demands. It’s no longer just about checking systems—quality is becoming a key driver of business success. Generative AI and virtual assistants are leading the way, making testing smarter and faster. AI provides real-time insights, predicts issues, and supports teams by automating repetitive tasks, leaving QA experts free to focus on bigger challenges. Hyper-automation is taking this further, creating systems that can fix issues on their own, ensuring faster, more reliable results. These advancements are transforming traditional testing into continuous, tech-driven processes that are part of development from the start. 

At the same time, ethics and accountability are gaining importance. New regulations like the EU AI Act require QA teams to ensure fairness, transparency, and trust in AI-driven systems. Together, these trends are shaping a future where quality is central to both technology and business.

Project management 

In 2025, artificial intelligence (AI) and automation will have a significant impact on project management.  

AI-powered tools will assist in predicting risks, creating schedules, and analyzing team performance. These advancements will save project managers valuable time, allowing us to focus more on strategy and team collaboration rather than routine tasks.

The industry will also see an increase in hybrid project setups. This shift will require project managers to adjust frameworks and methodologies to business needs and context. Adaptability will be key as teams keep up with new tools and ways of working. Leading with empathy will also be crucial, especially in hybrid workplaces, where building trust and teamwork matters more than ever. 

Project managers who align their strategies with business goals and deeply understand customer needs will gain a significant advantage. As the role becomes more strategic, success will depend on balancing technical proficiency with strong communication and emotional intelligence, ensuring teams are motivated and aligned with broader objectives of a company. 

Mobile development 

The mobile development landscape is undergoing a transformation as AI becomes deeply embedded in every stage of the process. Tools like Gemini in Android Studio showcase how AI can go beyond basic code generation and testing, offer UI design recommendations, and generate personalized experiences in real-time. This shift will accelerate development cycles, making them faster and more efficient, at the same time empowering developers to create high-quality, feature-rich apps in less time.

In the near future, soft skills will be more crucial than ever. Creativity will be the most important, driving innovation and guiding AI effectively. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability will help navigate challenges and stay resilient in a changing environment. Collaboration, communication, time management, and maintaining work-life balance will also be vital for success. 

Never stop learning! While it’s essential to stay updated on new technologies like AI/ML, don’t overlook the time-tested principles that form the backbone of software development. Concepts such as SOLID, KISS, DRY, YAGNI, GoF design patterns, and Clean Code remain vital for creating robust, maintainable systems. Balancing innovation with these fundamentals will set you up for long-term success. 

Recruitment 

As we move into 2025, companies will increasingly leverage tools like machine learning and AI-driven platforms to identify and connect with diverse candidates more efficiently. LinkedIn will continue to be the primary platform for recruitment, but with hybrid work becoming increasingly popular, recruiters will need to expand their efforts beyond online connections. Attending conferences, industry events, and networking in person will play a bigger role in building relationships and staying connected with top talent. 

Adaptability and prioritization are absolutely essential in today’s fast-paced hiring landscape. With client needs quickly shifting, it’s crucial to stay flexible and manage time effectively. Being familiar with the latest technologies and knowing how to analyze candidate data can really make a difference. At the same time, soft skills like relationship-building and maintaining a strong network will always be the foundation of successful recruitment. 

Focus on staying curious and resilient, embrace the latest tools, and be ready to pivot when needed. By balancing technology with a human touch, you’ll excel in recruitment and help your organization thrive.
